Staying Fit After 60: Introducing the Exercise for Life Program by Calvin Hill

Reviewed by Teri Davis

Who would be the most likely person for writing a fitness book than someone who is a living example of a particular program?

Staying Fit After 60: Introducing the Exercise for Live Program by Calvin HillCalvin Hill realized as he was approaching the age of sixty, that he was not living a healthy lifestyle. Determined to live life to the fullest, he developed his own fitness program for people who are not planning to spend immense amounts of money on equipment or a health club.

For the past seventeen years, Calvin Hill has been the walking billboard for his program. He is his best endorsement for this particular series of exercises for keeping fit mentally and physically.

As Hill approached the age of sixty, he began exercising and started to search for simple activities that would strengthen every muscle and bone group in his body. The results were the loss of thirty pounds, feeling more mentally alert, and discovering less stress on his joints resulting in less pain.

Water: For Health, for Healing, for Life: You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty! by F. Batmanghelidj

You're Not Sick, You're ThirstyReviewed by Nancy Eaton

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj wrote this book to show the importance that water has on the body. Dr. Batmanghelidj was a political prisoner. While incarcerated and facing death by execution, he found that drinking two glasses of water helped relieve his peptic ulcer pain. He also helped treat other prisoners with their pain by giving them water to drink.

In this book, Dr. Batmanghelidj lists 46 reasons why your body needs water every day. Some of the reasons listed are as follows:

*Water is necessary to help prevent clogging of arteries in the heart and brain

*Water helps the immune system to combat infections and cancer cells

*Water helps with depression

*Water is necessary to help with sleep disorders

*Water can give you more energy

*Water helps aid with strong bone formation

*Water helps prevent glaucoma

Dr. Batmanghelidj also lists 9 primary properties and functions of water in the body.

Ageing Well: A Guide to Rejuvenation and Longevity by Dr. George Cromack

ageingReviewed by Mary Z.

Dr. Cromack knows his subject well and clarifies some major points in order to maximize health at any age. He starts with a description of the basic support devices and how valuable a chiropractor can be. Exercises that anyone can do is also given as well as the proper use of acupuncture and herbs.

Most of the book is devoted to food and toxins in the body. Dr. Cromack urges the reader to supplement food intake with E3Live, a blue-green algae high in long chain omega three fatty acids and all eight essential amino acids. This liquid will provide more energy, decrease the signs of ageing, and stabilize blood sugar.

The author explains the use of Superfoods and how to release toxins through fasting and cleansings. He laces the book with recipes which will help metabolism and restore well-being.

It was interesting to read what has helped Dr. Cromack and his clients over the years and I would recommend this book to beginners who want a clear understanding of how the body works and what to do to make it function better. The information here is not new and can be found elsewhere so I don’t think anyone who is already “health-conscious” will learn anything new.
