Against My Will by Benjamin Berkley

Against My Will Reviewed by Nancy Eaton

When I received this book in the mail, I decided to read through the first few pages to see if it would be of interest to me. Instead of reading through the first few pages, I continued to quickly read through the chapters. The story captured my interest and I just could not stop reading this book. I loved the author’s writing style.

It is Danielle’s wedding day. It is supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life. Why was she having these awful feelings about getting married to Jacob? Her father wanted Danielle to get married since she was not getting any younger and he felt Jacob was a very nice guy. Danielle went through with the wedding but soon realized her fears about Jacob were true.

Against My Will intertwines the stories of two women who fought for survival and both held a very similar dark secret. Although an incident or two might seem a little unbelievable and others are very predictable, I still feel this is one of the best books I have read. The author does an amazing job of alternating Danielle’s story with chapters from Rose’s diary during her time in a concentration camp.

The author’s descriptions of the characters really make it easy for the reader to like and cheer for Danielle, to feel sympathy for everything Rose has gone through and to really dislike Jacob.

Against My Will is a compelling read with a strong message and one that will make you think about the characters long after you have finished reading it.
