Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo and Sonja Burpo, Colton Burpo and Lynn Vincent (Review #2)

Heaven is for RealReviewed by Nancy Eaton

Haven’t we all wondered what it is like in heaven? We have heard many stories by people who have had a near death experience but this one comes from a four-year-old boy. What an amazing story!

During a family trip, Colton became ill. Many tests were done and the doctors ruled out appendicitis. Colton became more and more ill. After a cat scan was done, it was discovered that Colton had a burst appendix. Now he had to undergo life saving surgery.

Colton made it through the surgery. He did not talk about his out of body experiences at the beginning but he said something about heaven one day that really took his father by surprise. His father tried not to put words into Colton’s mouth as he was questioning him about heaven. Colton told his parents many things he could not have possibly known. He talked about his sister who he met in heaven. His mother had a miscarriage and Colton knew nothing about it. His parents felt he was too young at the time to talk to him about the child they lost. Colton said he could see his father praying in a room and that he was all by himself. How could Colton have known all of this? He was not given the details of what they were doing while he was going through life saving surgery.

Some people who read this book might be skeptical because Colton’s father is a preacher. One might feel his father implanted some of these thoughts in his mind due to the fact that Colton surely heard many of his sermons. I was convinced that this little boy did go through an out of body experience. I believe this because it is a coming from a four-year old child and not someone who is making up a story to capitalize on it. Heaven is for Real is an inspiring, heart-warming story. This is a quick and interesting book to read. Whether you believe this story or not, it will surely turn out to be one of the most thought provoking stories you have ever read.
