The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

songReviewed by Nancy Eaton

Seventeen-year old Ronnie and her brother Jonah are going to Wrightsville, North Carolina to spend the summer with their father. This is not Ronnie’s choice but one suggested by her mother. Their father left three year’s ago and did not return. He was a concert pianist and is now creating a work of art for a local church. Jonah was much more enthusiastic about spending time with his father.

From the moment they arrived at their father’s house, Ronnie kept it no secret that she really did not want to be there. If her father tried to make amends, Ronnie would reject him. She spent her time away from the house and made friends with Blaze. Then she met Will, the local heartthrob. At first, he did not seem her type but Ronnie ended up falling in love with him.

What happens to the relationship between Ronnie and Will? Does Ronnie make amends with her father?

He gives the reader an unforgettable story that shows how love can bring you joy and pain and the many different forms it can take between people. Ronnie is a strong character – one you might not like at first but as time goes on, you will have a change of heart. Fans of Nicholas Sparks are in for their usual treat with this book and it probably would not hurt to have a few tissues handy as you read this one.
