THE POWER OF THE DOG
DON WINSLOW

Rookie DEA agent Art Keller makes a big mistake.  He befriends the Barrera brothers.  He does not realize that the two are nephews of a drug lord named Miguel Barrera.  Their friendship later turns into a personal vendetta.  Other main characters involved are Nora Hayden, a call girl, Sean Callan, a mob hit man, and a priest.

The author follows these characters over the next three decades through the war on drugs.  It covers the rise of the Mexican drug Federacion in the 1970's to the Iran-Contra affair in the l980's to the drug wars of the l990's.

Is agent Keller successful as he tries to destroy the world of drugs?

The author does an excellent job of writing this book.  It is obvious that he did a tremendous amount of research to give the reader the history of the war on drugs through the decades.  The book is a real thriller as it takes us behind the drug scenes during these years.  Don Winslow has a great cast of characters and weaves them very nicely into his complex plot.   This book is highly recommended.
