This book tells us about the typical day in the life of a dog named Kizzy, a R.E.A.D. dog. What is a R.E.A.D. dog? These dogs help people practice reading.

Some people have a difficult time when it comes to reading. It makes it even more difficult if someone makes fun of him or her. This is where Kizzy's job is very important. Kizzy helps people enjoy reading and never makes fun of them.

Kizzy visits several places in a typical day. He goes to the library where children bring books to read to him. Here a child might stutter while reading. Everything seems to change when Kizzy looks the child in the eye and seems to say, "Don't worry! You're doing great!"

Next Kizzy is off to visit a lady who has a difficult time speaking because she had a stroke. Kizzy's job is to try and help her talk again.

The next stop for Kizzy is to a home for teenagers who have gotten into trouble with the police. One of the teenagers, Meg, would not talk to anyone until Kizzy appeared. Now she reads to Kizzy.

Kizzy is a delightful and informative book for chidren to learn about R.E.A.D. dogs and what magic they can do for people with reading difficulties. This is an excellent book for children because they are given details about the job of a R.E.A.D. dog and the illustrations on each page are beautifully done and help to fortify the details of each case. This is also an informative read for adults. I did not know about this program. I knew about therapy dogs and search and rescue dogs but have not heard about R.E.A.D dogs. This book is an enjoyable and very entertaining read. If any parents have a child with reading difficulties, this is a program they should research. The author and illustrator have done a tremendous job putting this book together to create awareness for this program.
