Bailey
Weggins should have realized something was not quite right when her
boss, Cat, invited her to dinner. The invitation was not
unusual but when the boss suggested they meet in an out-of-the-way
place it should have made Bailey realize something was going to
happen.
Much to Bailey's surprise, Cat informed her
that she was going to take a new direction with the magazine,
Gloss. She wanted Gloss to be more about bliss and less about
buzz. Bailey had a contract to write a series of crime stories
for the magazine. Bailey still had five articles left on her
contract and Cat informed her that she would be paid the entire
amount due.
Financially, Bailey did not have to
worry too much. She wrote for several other magazines and her
father left her a monthly income through a trust fund.
Bailey had made prior arrangements to meet with Robby Hart
who she knew from Get Magazine. Robby now worked as the senior
editor for Buzz Magazine. When Bailey told Robby her story
about not working for Gloss Magazine anymore, he stated "I've got
the perfect job for you". It just so happened that Buzz
Magazine decided to treat celebrity crimes in a more journalistic
way.
Mona Hodges was the editor in chief at Buzz
Magazine. She was not well like by the employees. She
was constantly yelling at them.
Soon after Bailey
began working at Buzz, Robby was let go by Mona. He called
Bailey and asked her to do him a favor. He could not go back to
the building since he was no longer an employee and needed a couple
of reference letters he left in his office. He asked Bailey to
stop in and pick them up for him.
Bailey agreed to do this
for Robby. When Bailey gets back to the office, she is in for
a big surprise. Someone had attacked both Mona and the
cleaning lady.
Who would do this? Was it Robby
in an attempt to get revenge for being fired? Was it one of
the other disgruntled employees?
Kate White has written a
real page-turner. This is one of those books you just can't
put down. You just want to keep on reading to find which one
of Mona's enemies is responsible. The book has a wonderful
plot with loads of suspense, intriguing characters and also includes
a bit of humor. This is an entertaining read and one that is
highly recommended.
