BOOK REVIEW: PIECES OF MY HEART
BY ROBERT J. WAGNER

We hope you enjoy this book review by Nancy Eaton.

If you are a Robert Wagner fan, this is a must read book. The actor takes the reader through nearly six decades of his life including details about his friends and romances.

You will find out many things about Robert Wagner that you might not have known before reading this book. I did not know that he dated Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and had a four-year romantic relationship with Barbara Stanwyck who was almost twice his age. He was so jealous of Natalie Wood that he thought about killing Warren Beatty because he thought the two were having an affair.

The book begins with his childhood and the memories of his father who was obsessed by his business. Even after the children were born things did not change. The author states that when he was sent off to private boarding school, his father paid the train porter $10 to “look after him”. The porter’s name was Sloan. Robert named a horse after Sloan because he showed him more affection than his father ever did.

Robert Wagner gives the readers information on how he got his first role and soon ended up making $75 per week. Eventually he was making $5,000 per week.

One of the most interesting parts of this book is the relationship between Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood. They divorced and both married someone else but the flame of their love still remained and eventually they remarried. One subject that Robert Wagner never really talked about was the tragedy of Natalie’s death. In this book, he does give many details about that terrible night. He went through a very painful time and suffered from depression. He now gives credit to his current wife, Jill St. John for his survival.

Robert Wagner has written an engrossing memoir that will keep the reader interested throughout the book. He writes about his good times and bad times in life with great detail. Many people have wondered about the night Natalie died. The details given in Robert's memoir will answer some of your questions. The story is moving at times and you can feel the actor’s pain and happiness. Be sure to add Pieces of My Heart to your reading list. You will not be disappointed.
