BOOK REVIEW:
BARK UP THE RIGHT TREE:
LESSONS FROM A RESCUED DOG
BY JESSIE AND RUTH TSCHUDIN

We hope you enjoy this book review by Laura Goodwin.

This book was about a woman named Ruth Tscudin who adopted a rescued Labrador named Jessie. It is very cute with the narrator being the dog herself. Jessie gives background information on how she was rescued from Rawhide Rescue and her previous owners mistreating her. She kept getting sick and they were able to nurse her back to health.

Each section of the book has “Paws” for lessons learned with is a really neat reference guide that anybody, young or old can appreciate. This book is truly an inspiration to all dogs that are in a shelter and just need a loving companion. I admire Ruth for being able to adopt Jessie and form a great bond with her. Some of the best dogs I have owned came from Special Pals and I encourage all people to adopt an animal to keep it from being spared.

This book is a very quick read, with only fourteen chapters and some beautiful color pictures at the end. I like how it shows the progression as you are reading it, from Jessie fitting in to the family life. I am so glad that both Jessie and Ruth learned from one another. By having the dog as the narrator, you gain a unique perspective on how the dog would feel about things. I like the humor in this book.

I especially like the section where they come across the Schnauzer pup. I liked that Ruth took the dog home and cleaned him up. Her writing is so descriptive and as you are reading it, you can clearly visualize a bouncing puppy running all over the place. I am glad that the owner was able to reunite with the puppy. We need more books like this with happy messages and great endings. I think young and old readers can appreciate this book. It would make a nice gift giver and I like the fact that ten percent of all the proceeds from the sale of this book go to help animals and children in need of homes.
