Jeremy Marsh met Lexie, the small town librarian, when he was sent to Boone Creek, North Carolina to do an article for Scientific American. Jeremy fell head over heals in love with Lexie in a matter of days. Jeremy was planning to marry Lexie. He had a chance to do a morning television show in New York City and made the decision to leave all of this for Lexie. His friend, Alvin, warned Jeremy to take it a little slower. He told Jeremy he should date Lexie for a while and make sure the two of them are compatible. Jeremy responded by stating that's what he was doing. Alvin disagreed informing Jeremy that he was going into the big "I do" first.

After a little more prodding by Alvin, Jeremy admitted that Lexie was pregnant. Alvin was concerned because he didn't think Jeremy knew much about Lexie. Alvin started to ask Jeremy questions like "What is Lexie's middle name?" Jeremy admitted he did not know the answers to many of the questions Alvin was asking. However, Jeremy still wanted to get married and ended up asking Alvin to be his best man.

One day, Jeremy spotted Lexie sitting on a bench with her long time friend, Rodney. Something he saw upset him. He noticed they were holding hands. What is going on between Rodney and Lexie?

Jeremy was not in a good mood. He decided to spend some time on the Internet. His e-mail contained mostly spam. He almost deleted the last message and then noticed the words "HOW DO YOU KNOW THE BABY IS YOURS?

How well does Jeremy know Lexie? Is the baby his?

Nicholas Sparks can take a simple plot and turn it into a masterful work of art. This novel will make you wonder how well you think you know someone. The author does an excellent job of making the characters appear so real. All through the book the author will keep you guessing as to what is going to happen to the relationship between these two people. Be prepared for a surprise ending. This one is highly recommended.
