When an act of violence occurs sometimes the survivors suffer trauma and find it unable to continue with their normal life. This is what happened in the case of Caroline Williams who has escaped from California to her hometown of Riverton, Illinois and the safety and security of her parent's farm.

Four years earlier Caroline broke her engagement to David Thompson and escaped to Los Angeles to prove she could make her way on her own. She was successful there as a model but when her best friend was shot down by a stalker and killed and Caroline was also hit she could no longer face her life in California.

Back home Caroline faced sleepless nights and a feeling that someone was watching her. When her parents insisted that she go to the doctor she was shocked to find out that David had taken over his father's practice. She also could not deny that she still had feelings for him.

Caroline's brother Rob was also trying to cope with his new baby and his wife's inability to snap out of her depression and continue with a normal life. With Rob's problems in the forefront he was unable to offer much support to Caroline and Caroline was blinded to her brother's problems.

Caroline began to suspect she was once again being stalked but had trouble making David, Rob and the local police believe it was any more than her imagination.

When there came a point where the police realized that Caroline's fears were well-founded it was almost too late.

Departed Acts is an excellent book in my opinion. The book is a love story coupled with a lot of suspense and I totally enjoyed it.
