BOOK REVIEW: TESTIMONY
BY ANITA SHREVE

We hope you enjoy this book review by Nancy Eaton.

His secretary hands Mike Borden, the headmaster of a private school in Vermont, a video tape. Mr. Borden has no idea as to what is on the tape but is shocked when he does find out. The tape shows three boys engaging in intimate acts with a fourteen-year-old girl. The three boys were older than the female student. Apparently, there happened to be quite a bit of alcohol involved because he could see this evidence in the background.

The story continues with each person giving his/her specific testimony as to what happened. In situations like this, there is always conflicting testimony and it is difficult to assess who is telling the truth and who is not.

I have read many of Anita Shreve’s books and have loved every one of them. However, I believe Testimony is her best yet. She provides the reader with thought provoking scenarios to make them do some thinking as each person gives their “testimony”. The subject of this novel is very serious and the author handles it in a way that makes it an educational experience for the reader to see how something like this could affect so many lives. Testimony is a page-turner with compelling characters. Be sure to add this novel to your reading list.
