BOOK REVIEW: LAST CALL
BY JD SEAMUS

We hope you enjoy this book review by Gina Metz.

Last Call is the story of Jimmie Collins, his friends and bar patrons. Jimmie is probably one of the best friends anyone could have. He was always there to help those in need if he liked you. He owned a bar called Jimmieís in New York City that became home to many of people in the neighborhood.

Jimmieís clientele ran from beat cops to Mafioso, career women to former linebackers. Jimmie did everything from matchmaking to helping a neighborhood priest with thugs. He also sold merchandise that might have fallen off a truck from time to time.

Jimmie always has time to help others even with his ailing wife and a mentally disabled child. As his wifeís health deteriorates, Jimmie moves her and his daughter to an assisted living home in Florida. When he moves his family to Florida his bar becomes his family. They look the other way about things that might not be above board as they understand that he needs the extra income for the medical bills that arenít covered in health insurance.

As if things arenít bad enough with Jimmieís family, he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. He thinks he has everything in order with the sale of his apartment, bar and a substantial amount he has in offshore accounts. He makes arrangements for someone to handle these funds to take care of his wife and daughter since it appears he will now precede them in death.

After Jimmieís death the unthinkable happens. The assisted living home contacts one of Jimmieís friends and explains that the bills are not being paid on his family. The money has disappeared. Now it is up to Jimmieís bar family to return his friendship by finding the money and making sure his family is taken care of.

Last Call is a wonderful book with great characters that one feels like you know well by the end of the book. Jimmie would be a wonderful friend and so would his friends. Last Call is sad in some ways reading about a man that gets hit with so many problems but he continues to go on and be as happy as he can and Jimmie and his friends make one believe that there are still decent people in this world. I would highly recommend reading Last Call.
