This is a delightful story about several women who grew up in Cuba and are now working in a doll factory in New Jersey. Graciela and a few of the others ride to work with Letitia who was the only one who learned to drive. Letitia charged them seven dollars which was a little more than the bus cost but to them it was worth it. Letitia managed to take some money out of Cuba and was able to buy a van.

Graciela's dream was to find happiness just like what she would see in the telenovelas she watched at night. She believed finding this happiness would help her forget about Cuba. Graciela did not know how she could do this, however, with the other two women right by her side each day. Graciela's friends informed her that the telenovelas were just fantasies and something like this would never happen.

Much to everyone's surprise, Mr. O'Reilly, the foreman, seemed very interested in Graciela. Could this be the chance for her dream to come true? What would Caridad and Imperio think of this possibility?

This novel provides an interesting look at immigrants who come to America without any real plans for survival except their own fantasies. The author does an excellent job with the characters who show us that many things a woman can do in America are quite different from what is expected of one in Cuba. The book gives the reader an in-depth comparison in many ways. This is one that the reader will enjoy because it shows that no matter what obstacles are in our way, we can still pursue our dreams.
