Andy Carpenter has been living a lonely life with only Tara, his Golden Retriever, and a few old friends for company. The love of his life Laurie Collins decided to return to her home town of Findley, Wisconsin and Andy is still trying to recover from the shock.
Suddenly Laurie if faced with a double homicide and in her new position as acting Police Chief she is in charge. A suspect has been arrested for the brutal murders of two young girls. Even though the evidence points to the young man who she has arrested Laurie feels that he is innocent. She calls Andy and begs him to come to Findley and represent the accused.
Traveling to Wisconsin is not one of the ten things Andy most wants to do but he is convinced and with his trusty side-kick Tara he heads for Wisconsin.
The case is pretty much open and shut as far as the prosecutor's office is concerned but Andy feels there is much more to the story. The town the girls are from does not look kindly on strangers and the leaders do their best to block Andy's investigation.
Dead Center is a good addition to Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series. Andy is always fun to read and Tara is a good companion. Laurie and Andy's relationship takes a step in the right direction. I am looking forward to the next Andy Carpenter book.
