BOOK REVIEW:
SAY HELLO TO THE ELEPHANTS
BY TONY ROSE

We hope you enjoy this book review by Laura Goodwin

This book is unlike anything I have ever read before. It is not really a self-help book, more like a way to use a four-part process in how to deal with obstacles in our lives. The cover illustrates the four –part processes involving: clarity, solutions, implementation, and sustainability. The author refers to these as “elephants” and thinks that we should confront them head-on.

The principle that the author uses involves quadrant thinking. I really liked this concept and how the author breaks it down for you. His intended audience would be for professionals, but you could basically apply his principles to any level of business. This book is not like “The Secret” in its format, but rather a broader range and more complex. The author is a tax and management consultant and some of his analogies are for the money and business sense. For this, some of the passages I had to re-read over again because I did not understand what he was trying to say. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the author’s sense of humor and it helped maintain the flow of the book. He is very refreshing and uplifting in his tone.

I did like the worksheets at the end of the book and thought these were very useful. By writing some of these goals and objectives down, the reader will have a better concept of his principle. This book would be better suited for work groups, like in a workshop setting, where people could gain more insight into these principles. It is a very quick read and would be great to keep in a library for future references. There are footnotes throughout this book and I found them to be very beneficial to further expand the concepts the author is relaying. Some of the footnotes further illustrated the author’s sense of humor and made me laugh out loud to them. All in all, I recommend this book as a useful tool in handling problems and creating strategies.
