One of those books you don’t want to put down.

Lieutenant Reed Soliday works for the Chicago Fire Department as an arson investigator. Mia Mitchell is a police detective who is assigned with Reed Soliday to try to find who is setting so many fires and killing in the process. This killer tortures all his victims by setting fire to them while they are still alive. He breaks their legs so they cannot escape. He loves to watch people burn and scream from hurt.

No matter how Reed and Mia set traps to catch this horrible person, it does not succeed. This killer has brought two individuals together that don’t exactly get along with each other. Mia is the boss in her mind and she has a very hard time adjusting to having a new “partner” to work with. Her last partner was a police detective that was shot in the line of duty and is still recuperating. Mia does not like the idea of having to work with a new partner, especially one that is not a cop!

Reed and Mia have family they are close to. Normal family problems exist that throw glitches into the investigators occasionally, glitches that are worked through, but never completely disappear. Of course Mia and Reed eventually find out they are both interested in each other but again, neither wants to give in and admit to such a relationship.

The arson and murder activity will keep you on edge all through the book. The search for the culprit is extremely difficult because of the lack of similarity in the victims that are chosen. Finally details start to put a story line together that helps the authorities search in the proper places. Karen Rose has a winner in “Count to Ten” as you will find out. Don’t start it unless you have some time to read. It is very exciting non-stop action.
