Is someone from beyond the grave watching out for Nat Idle?

Medical journalist Nat Idle is in an Internet café reading a paperback copy of Mystic River. A woman enters the café and leaves a folded note on his table and walks out the door. Was this woman trying to "pickup" Nat? He tried to catch up with her but was not successful as she drove away in a red Saab. He opened the note and was shocked by what he read. It stated "get out of the café now!" He barely had time to think when he heard a loud explosion in the café. Nat was knocked off his feet but did not receive serious injuries. Hundreds of people were injured and there were five fatalities. Was this terrorism?

There was something really strange about the note that Ned received. It was written in the handwriting of his late girlfriend, Annie. Annie died four years ago in a boating accident and Nat thinks about her every day. How could this note be in her handwriting?

Nat is now determined to find out what is happening. He starts by asking questions of people who survived. Strange occurrences started to happen that would tend to make one wonder. Simon Anderson's home was hit by arson. Another one of the survivors is a waitress, Erin Coultran. On the day of the blast, she just happened to walk into the restroom the minute the blast was about to happen. Could she be involved in some way? These are just a couple of the strange things that were starting to take place. Who can Nat trust?

Is Nat able to find out what is going on and at the same time save his own life?

This audio book has a great title because "Hooked" is exactly how you will feel after reading the very first page. The author does an excellent job of weaving back and forth in time between the present and the much happier times during the relationship of Nat and Annie. Some readers might like this; others might feel the going back and forth interferes with the excitement of what is happening now. I, for one, liked the idea because it clues the reader in on the deepness of Annie and Nat's love. This is an action packed novel that is written around the technology world we live in today. The chapters are short and that is something I like. It always makes me want to go on and read another chapter before I turn out the light. This is another great summer read. Be sure to add Hooked to your list. This audio book is read by Jason Singer who does an excellent job.
