WHAT THE DOGS HAVE TAUGHT ME:
AND OTHER INTERESTING THINGS I'VE
LEARNED - MERRILL MARKOE

This book consists of a number of short essays.  One of my favorites is "The Dog Diaries" where the author begins "I pick dogs that remind me of myself - scrappy, mutt-faced, with a hint of mange."  She continues on to say "people look for a reflection of their own personalities or the person they dream of being in the eyes of an animal companion.  That is the reason I sometimes look into the face of my dog Stan and see wistful sadness and existential angst, when all he is actually doing is slowly scanning the ceiling for flies."  As you can imagine, the entire book is filled with funny essays like this one.

Another of my favorites is "Things to Do While waiting for the World to End. "  The author does a section on Wardrobe.  "After the end of the world, fashion will be at a standstill.  So there is no time like the present to begin cultivating the look you would like to have for the Apocalypse."

This is a very entertaining book that will make you laugh out loud several times.  It's a great book to read while just relaxing at home, traveling on a plane or enjoying a day at the beach.  The essays are different from anything you have read in the past and you will thoroughly enjoy them.
