BOOK REVIEW: THE PYRAMID
BY HENNING MANKELL

We hope you enjoy this book review by Patricia Reid.

The stories in the Pyramid are as addictive as Henning Mankell’s full length novels. The five stories that make up The Pyramid focus on Kurt Wallander’s early years as a police officer. This is a “must read” for all Wallander’s fans.

“Wallander’s First Case” involves the death of Wallander’s neighbor and highlights the fact that once involved in a case Wallander can’t let go until he finds the answer. In this, his first case, he even calls in sick to do more investigating.

The second story, “The Man With The Mask” described the events of a memorable Christmas Eve in 1975 where death refused to take a holiday.

Each of the stories in this book describes another case in Wallander’s career. I can’t say that any particular case is my favorite. Each one is very different and complicated with more than one surprise in store for the reader.

This peek into Wallander’s early days is a great read and one every Wallander fan should enjoy. The Pyramid is also a great introduction to Henning Mankell for those who haven’t read his wonderful books.
