Natalie Barnes a Texas native who fell in love with an old inn on Cranberry Island in Maine. She has turned it into a bed and breakfast and is struggling to make the inn pay for itself. She loves the island her new friends and is particularly attracted to her neighbor John.

Natalie's niece Gwen is staying with Natalie for the summer and taking art classes with a local artist.

Some of the residents of Cranberry Island have started a "Save the Terns" organization. Terns are seabirds that nest in the area around Cranberry Island. Bernard Katz is proposing building a resort on Cranberry Island but the resort would destroy the nesting places of the terns.

Natalie also finds out by accident that the plans for his resort would include The Gray Whale Inn, her bed and breakfast, but it wouldn't be an inn - it would be a parking lot.

Bernard Katz is staying at The Gray Whale Inn while he is on Cranberry Island and when he is found dead Natalie immediately becomes a suspect.

I can promise while Natalie is cooking breakfast at the Inn you are bound to get hungry but the recipes are in the back of the book so you can try them out at home. I enjoyed Murder on the Rocks and look forward to the next Gray Whale Inn Mystery.
