BOOK REVIEW: |
Laura Lopez has written a comprehensive leadership guide gleaned from personal and
extensive business experiences using 7 essential leadership techniques. This guide is
written for everyone from Corporate America to homemakers seeking to improve leadership
skills.
Ms. Lopez has done her homework presenting the material not in a teaching format per
se,but like she's having a conversation with close friends. Gently leading you to the
conclusion you will become a better leader if you read "The Connected and Committed
Leader".
Divided into three distinct parts, each connected to the others. The first part gives
you an overview of what the good qualities of becoming a better leader are, using personal
experiences and those of others to define good leadership. The second part contains the
7 leadership essentials. Each chapter contains a quote from prominent leaders and others
including past presidents. The end of the book includes a leadership assessment exercise
to determine your present leadership type and what you need to change if anything to
become a better leader not only at home, but at work.
From the opening paragraph to the last page, the book has the feel of sitting in a
comfortable chair having a conversation with a best friend. Ms. Lopez accomplished what
she intended by the tone of the book, never criticizing, showing the road ahead, giving
you the information you need if you choose to implement what you learn.
I was skeptical when I first read the title, thinking this was going to be a teaching
manual that would be hard to understand. I was hooked from the first sentence and didn't
want to put it down until I was finished. I appreciate Ms. Lopez suggestions and personal
stories to back up her words. I found this to be very enjoyable and informative and would
recommend this guide to everyone. I learned a great deal about being a better person and
a better leader. Thank you Laura Lopez.
