BOOK REVIEW: GLITTER OF DIAMONDS
BY N.J. LINDQUIST

We hope you enjoy this book review by Patricia Reid.

Baseball players enjoy a lot of publicity, make a lot of money and have a ton of fans and groupie admirers. Rico Velasquez was just such a baseball player. The Toronto Matrix team had brought Rico from Cuba to play ball. Rico not only played excellent baseball but also was good with playing around with women. When the team’s management made the decision to bring Rico’s wife to Toronto from Cuba it was a big surprise to Rico.

The young couple’s reunion was short-lived. Soon Rico was found with his head bashed in by a baseball bat. Toronto Police detective Paul Manziuk and his partner Jacqueline Ryan do not have an easy time investigating this murder. There are many suspects but not many real leads.

Ginny Lovejoy is a sports columnist and seems to be well liked. Kyle Schmidt is a Toronto sports columnist who is unhappy in his job and longs for another career. Iain Foley is WIN 730’s Prime Show Host. Stacey Simon is an outspoken sports talk show host who has a large audience but does not hesitate to place herself in dangerous positions for the sake of the show and her audience. Eva MacPherson is a rich girl that tries her best to look like Marilyn Monroe. She had been Rico’s companion prior to the surprise arrival of Rico’s wife.

All of these people either are suspects or have ideas of their own about what happened to Rico.

The mysteries keep getting deeper and deeper. The characters are very realistic. There is never a dull moment in Glitter of Diamonds.
