Jon Katz has written this book because dog ownership has reached an all time high and there seems to be confusion about behavioral problems. This book is a guide to help people who are planning to buy a dog or who already have one and need help with training.
Just to name a few of the topics covered in this book are: What kind of dog should I have?; What is the best way to train a dog?; Can I trust my vet?; How often can a dog be left alone?; What are the secrets of successful housebreaking?; What is my dog thinking?; When is it time to put my dog down?
The author does an excellent job of going through each topic and explaining what needs to be done in terms that are easy to understand. Mr. Katz starts the book with an interesting chapter called "Why Do I Want A Dog?" Some people end up getting a dog for the wrong reason. The author includes a checklist for prospective dog owners that will be very beneficial to anyone considering getting a dog.
Another excellent chapter is the one on training. He stresses the importance of crate training. Some people do not want to keep their dog in a crate but Mr. Katz points out how important this item is when it comes to training your dog.
Every person who has a dog or is considering getting one needs to read this book. It is an excellent guide for you to use. It is an outstanding resource and one that every pet owner should have on the library shelf in their house. Don't pass on this one - you will thoroughly enjoy this book! It is highly recommended.
