BOOK REVIEW: HEART-SHAPED BOX
People collect many things. Some collections consist of things like coins, stamps, etc. Others might be a little different!
Jude had a collection. It was not your ordinary type of collection but consisted of very strange items. Among them were things like the skull of a peasant with pens jammed into the hole in the center of the cranium to let the demons out, a three hundred year old confession signed by a witch and a worn noose that had been used to hang a man in England. To say the least, this collection was a little grotesque.
Jude's personal assistant, Danny Wooten, told him that there was a ghost for sale on the internet. Danny wanted to know if Jude wanted to buy it. Jude didn't have to think twice about this ghost. He knew it had to be a part of his bizarre collection.
The ghost was for sale on an online auction. The ad read "buy my stepfather's ghost". It would be sold to the highest bidder. The winner would be sent the stepfather's Sunday suit with the belief that his spirit would be attached to it.
Jude makes a thousand dollar bid and winds up winning the "ghost". When he received the delivery from UPS in a heart-shaped box, it ends up being a whole lot more than what he thought he was going to get.
How does Jude deal with his winning bid?
This is Joe Hill's debut horror novel. Once you start reading this book, it will not be easy to stop. It is filled with some scary and strange happenings and the author captures the reader from the very first page. The storyline is very different compared to anything else you might have read which is a good thing because it is not like the same old plots you read all the time. If you are looking for something to read that is a little out of the ordinary with excellent character portrayal, this is the book for you. I highly recommend this one!
