BOOK REVIEW: FIREFLY LANE
What are good friends? When someone says to you “Let’s be friends forever” do you take it seriously?
Firefly Lane is about two friends, Kate and Tully. Kate Mularkey would do just about anything to have a friend. Then something great happened. When some new people moved in across the street Kate noticed a cool girl about her age. Tully was beautiful and very popular. When something terrible happened to Tully, she told Kate about it and this is how they became “friends forever”.
Kate and Tully were really opposites. Tully helps Kate with a makeover. Kate comes from a loving family but Tully has a mother who is a pothead and comes to see her once in a while.
This novel covers three decades of friendship between Tully and Kate. Sometimes they were separated due to Tully’s career. Kate became a wife and mother. Kate and Tully think they have been through it all until something happens that really puts their friendship to the test.
Kristin Hannah has written a wonderful book about friendship. She makes everything seem so real including the era of the 70’s by mentioning songs and other things that were popular at the time. If you were around in the 70’s, this book will bring back many memories for you. You will feel like you are in a time warp. This story is an intriguing read and what makes it so good is to be able to see how friendships can endure. One warning – be sure to have some tissues nearby because you will need them. Parts of this book will make you laugh and some pages will make you cry. This is a story that will stay with you and make you think twice about your best friend. Set some time aside because once you start reading this book you will not want to stop. I just can’t say enough about this book except that I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who ever had a best friend.
