BOOK REVIEW: HITMAN:
Stanley Hastings is not your normal private eye. In fact, he doesn’t even carry a gun. Why would Martin Kessler, a hitman, want to hire Stanley?
Martin Kessler decides that it is time to retire from his “profession”. He wants to hire Stanley Hastings to keep an eye on him just in case there is someone around who would like to take one more chance at knocking him off.
Well Stanley is known to have “messed up” some of his jobs now and then and that is exactly what happens in this case. Someone is out to get Kessler and soon the bodies start to pile up.
Stanley is indebted to his client and now must find out what happened. His investigation takes him to bars, corporate boardrooms and eventually a Manhattan courtroom.
Is Stanley successful at saving his client?
Hitman is the latest release in this long running series. This is my first experience with this series and it was good enough to make me want to go back and read the others. The author did an excellent job of creating the unlikely private eye, Stanley Hastings. You can just picture him in your mind. He almost reminds me of “Columbo” with his wrinkled raincoat. Can Stanley ever do anything right? It sure doesn’t seem like it! However, in the long run, he is determined to get his job done. We have to give him credit for that. There aren’t too many private eyes out there that will give us a good laugh – that is except for Stanley. He does make the reader laugh many times. Parnell Hall has done an outstanding job of writing this clever mystery and I highly recommend “Hitman”.
