BOOK REVIEW: THE ASSOCIATE
BY JOHN GRISHAM

We hope you enjoy this book review by Shelly Itkin

Kyle McAvoy is about to graduate from Yale Law School and has been planning on working and helping those in need for years and now his dream of helping those less fortunate it about to come true. He has told his Dad who is a small town practicing lawyer and he has accepted and is proud that he is not going into law for the money but for helping others. He feels this is something he is destined to do and how he will be able to help others with his knowledge and will be happy with the outcome knowing he is helping those who are much less fortunate then he is. Sometimes things don't go as planned and that is evident in less then the first fifty pages of the book. Life is not always what he hope it will be.

Things change when a mysterious tape appears showing what appears to be a rape that took place in the fraternity house where he lived there with his other buddies and although he is not in the picture which is a little hazy he can definitely identify two of his friends with the girl in the picture which they know.

The deal is simple you are to work for a high powered Wall Street firm called Scully Pershing and you will make lots of money but you have to do something in return. Don't want to give the plot away but I must say there are good characters, it is fast paced and with a lot of action but I think Mr. Grisham could of elaborated or done a much better job on the conclusion of the book. If you are like me a fan of the Firm at first you will see some similarities but then it kind of goes down hill. Rather disappointing for an author who could of provided his fans with many alternative endings and ones we would of enjoyed much more.
