Hell Hole is an old ride in the park at Seahaven, New Jersey and plays a part in this newest mystery involving Danny Boyle and John Ceepak, former military PD. But the ride is not the focal point of this mystery.

Danny and his partner for the evening Samantha Starkey are called out on a disturbing the peace complaint. On arrival at the scene they find that a group of five soldiers back from Iraq are having a celebration. While at the scene one of the soldiers receives a call that a Corporal Smith has been found at a rest stop and that someone needs to come and identify the body. They are informed that Smith has committed suicide. Since Dixon is in no condition to drive, Danny insists on driving Dixon, one of the soldiers, to the rest stop.

The body has not been moved and Danny feels that there is something about the suicide scene that just doesn’t fit. Danny has learned a lot from partnering with Ceepak and is alert enough to take a few pictures of his own of the scene with his cell phone. Ceepak is off duty for the night but the next day the two go over the circumstances and both agree that something is fishy.

Danny and Ceepak discover that Corporal Smith had more in mind than a party with his buddies when he headed for Seahaven. The truth is shocking and leaves the reader with a lot to think about.

This is the fourth book in the series involving Danny Boy and John Ceepak. It is great to see how each character changes as time goes by. Danny is becoming more and more mature and a better detective. Ceepak is now married and is able to bend a little. Not much – but a little.
