It is
always fun to read an April Woo mystery and this is an excellent
one. April is now Lieutenant April Woo Sanchez, commanding
officer of the Midtown North Detective Unit. Her husband,
Captain Mike Sanchez is now commanding officer of the Seventeenth
Precinct in New York City. Since their marriage and their
promotions Mike and April have not worked homicide together but when
Madeleine Wilson was found murdered in her private spa in her
expensive town house Captain Mike Sanchez immediately calls Lt. Woo
Sanchez. Once again they are working a homicide
together.
April and Mike have purchased a new home since
their marriage and are preparing for their honeymoon which had been
delayed on previous occasions due to the press of police
work.
Madeleine (Maddy) Wilson was the bored wife of Wayne
Wilson and the mother of two children. Maddy had a trainer
Derek who kept her supplied with cocaine as well as affection.
On the morning of her death Maddy was upset with her nanny, Remy
Banks, and announced her intention to fire her.
Remy was
friends with Alison Perkins' nanny Lynn. Alison was Maddy's
best friend and the wife of Andrew Perkins and mother to two
children. Maddy's trainer Derek was also Alison's
trainer. Both Maddy and Alison had used the agency owned by Jo
Ellen Anderson, an eccentric old woman, who kept close track of her
placements and her clients.
Before April and Mike have time
to review all of the evidence in the Wilson murder Alison Perkins is
found murdered in her home.
To make matters worse
April's Skinny Dragon Mother had settled into April and Mike's home
without an invitation and was busy attempting to redecorate in what
was her opinion the proper manner.
This was a good mystery
with some humor thrown in. The murderer was a well-kept secret
until close to the end. April's Sgt. Gelo was a character that
I enjoyed. I will be sure and buy the next April Woo
mystery.
