Can a dog really sense what is going on when something tragic happens to a member of the household?

Desiree Shapiro is a Private Investigator in Manhattan. She admits that she is not the best PI so when she gets a case and gets paid she doesn't run to the bank but goes to Bloomingdale's to do some shopping.

In fact, it was during a visit to Bloomingdale's that she found out about what would be her next case. Her friend Blossom Goody caught up with her and informed Desiree that a friend of hers needs a private investigator. Desiree wasn't too keen with this idea because Blossom referred a client to her before and the results were not good. Desiree changed her mind when Blossom said she told the man that he could not get any better than Desiree Shapiro.

Desiree drove to Cloverton to meet her new client, Byron Mills. After getting lost a few times she finally did arrive at his house. After some discussion, Byron informed Desiree that his son, Jordy, was killed the day before he was scheduled to donate a kidney to his brother, Cornell. The death of Jordy led to Cornell taking his own life.

As Desiree started her investigation, she soon discovered that Jordy was well liked by everyone including the family dog, Tootsie. Tootsie was a mess since Jordy's death and was very depressed. Cornell, on the other hand, had several enemies.

Was Jordy murdered to guarantee the death of Cornell? Why would someone handle it this way? Is Desiree successful at solving this case? What happens to the dachshund? You will be surprised!

Desiree Shapiro is a character you will love. She is determined, funny and really likes to eat (especially chocolate cake). This mystery is on the light side but it will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. The main ingredient that makes this book an entertaining read is the corky, colorful characters. They will surely give you a few laughs along the way. There is even a delicious recipe at the end of the book. If you are looking for a fun summer read be sure to add "Murder Can Depress Your Dachshund" to your reading list. It is one that you will enjoy!
