BOOK REVIEW: RICH LIKE THEM: MY DOOR-TO-DOOR SEARCH FOR THE SECRETS OF WEALTH IN AMERICA'S RICHEST NEIGBORHOODS BY RYAN D'AGOSTINO

I wish I was "one of them". The people who get interviewed for this type of book - the women and men who were smart enough or lucky enough or both to be "well off financially" so that basically, working for the rest of their lives became a choice rather than a necessity. This is why I love reading books such as Rich Like Them. It makes me a) mad at myself b) drool and c) live in a different world for a while. I, of course, also like to pick up any type of personal financial information that I can while reading about the rich.
I think author D'Agostino has a very clever idea - meet and interview those who have "made it" and find out if there are any commonalities and try to get some nuggets of wisdom in the process.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the stories, but I particularly liked the one about the 47 year old lady who was retiring "tomorrow" - now this is one I can identify with!
Some of the stories were more interesting than others, and frankly, at times, I was thinking "and this guy is rich?" There was also a high degree of drooling on my part as I went through the book - but there were some important messages that came out of it such as the difference in loving your work and becoming obsessed with it. I also was amazed at how creative some of these people were - it made me take a look around and see what I could work on and improve.
One of the things that I did not agree with in this book is the author's claim that luck has nothing to do with getting rich. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with him on this one. I believe that luck is an important part of getting ahead.
I would have liked to get more "in depth" with some of the people interviewed in this book. I think the author should have considered including less participants and spending more time on each.
Other than that, this was a very informative and entertaining book.
