I have read many of Michael Connelly’s books and have enjoyed them from page one. The Concrete Blonde either started out slow or I was not really “into” it as I kept wondering when this book would pick up speed and get interesting. About one-third into it I was not disappointed. The action started and it kept me very interested to the very end.

Detective Harry Bosch works in the Los Angeles Police Department. Bosch is led to an apartment where a victim claimed to have seen the Dollmaker, a vicious killer who kills and maims his victims. This witness escaped from the killer and sought help. Bosch enters the apartment, sees shadows, and carefully approaches what looked like a man standing beside a bed. Bosch hollered to the man that he was a cop and to put his hands up. Instead, the man reached under a pillow on the bed, making Bosch think he was pulling out a weapon, and shot the man, killing him.

The case went to court with the dead man’s wife suing Bosch and the LAPD. Was this dead man the Dollmaker or not? When several new victims appeared having been killed a very similar way, the attorney’s as well as the police were not too sure that Bosch had killed the proper man. Bosch was determined that he had the correct person and that a copycat was now killing. Bosch’s attorney was not sure that his client was innocent but during the trial, he gave him the time and chance he needed to search for evidence to prove that he was correct.

This book takes many twists and turns in the courtroom as well as in the streets. Bosch had many in his own department that doubted him so it was up to Bosch to prove he was right! A very good action book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen next and who did what?
