BOOK REVIEW: YOUR ROOTS ARE SHOWING
BY ELISE CHIDLEY

We hope you enjoy this book review by Teri Davis.

Sometimes we just canít be satisfied with what we have. Lizzie Buckley has that problem when she decides to send a gripe letter about her husband to her sister in Australia via e-mail. Unfortunately, both their names begin with common letters and she sometimes gets a little careless in checking who is in the address box. Needless to say, the gripe letter goes straight to her husband who is not really pleased to learn that she no longer has feelings for him. Basically, he sees this as their time together is over and immediately begins the separation process leading to divorce.

Lizzie desperately attempts to explain the situation to him, but he just will not listen. She doesnít want to separate or divorce; she just needs some quiet time when she is not overwhelmed with her preschool aged twins. The couple has never really adjusted to having their special time together since the five-year-old twins were born.

Lizzie has also gained weight and just let herself go since the birth. She doesnít see herself as part of the problem. Itís all her husband. He just wonít listen. He wonít give her another chance.

YOUR ROOTS ARE SHOWING is Lizzieís journey into life after birth. Her husband and Lizzie never brought back the sparkle which brought them together. The needs of the twinsí lives ruled, not the needs of the adults.

The book was fun to read and unfortunately, at times, very truthful whether you want to hear it or not. The truth does not always make you free. The readjustment to the individual needs against the family needs is a daily struggle with all families. Itís comforting to read about someone else experiencing the headaches that most of us, fortunately, find ways to cope and conquer.

Elise Chidley is originally from Swaziland, moved to England, and now lives in the U.S. YOUR ROOTS ARE SHOWING is her first novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the bluntness of this fictional novel. It was easy for me to relate to the situations throughout. We all like realistic and delightful characters. Iím looking forward to her next novel.
