BOOK REVIEW: A DESCENT INTO HELL |
|
|
"A Descent Into Hell” by Kathryn Casey is a very fascinating piece of writing. Very graphic descriptions of the drug addicted.
Colton Pitonyak was brought up in a middle class family, had everything he wanted as a child, went to private schools, received a full scholarship to University of Texas. He was a top student all through his school years, a polite boy. Most of the time. However there was another side to him. Brutality at times, fueled by alcohol and later drugs. His parents did not see this and were not looking. Colton started doing drugs his first year at University of Texas.
This book is a true story. It is truly hair raising to the reader.
How this marvelous, intelligent boy, a pride to his parents descended into hell by way of pot, cocaine and meth. First one at a time and then all together with alcohol as a chaser. The step by step vivid descriptions of Colton’s daily life are all at once terrifying to the reader, as well as, heartbreaking. This story is not about a boy who lives in abandoned buildings, shoots up in empty parking lots. This is a story of a young man having the mental and financial ability to rent an apartment, go to the university and do drugs in massive amounts, all at the same time.
There is also a parallel story of Laura Hall, Colton’s on again off again girl friend, who just does not see or care anything other than she is in love with this boy.
It is devastating to read this bird’s eye view into the world of an addicted life style. Lack of caring among some of our young. It is also very frightening. Every parent and grandparent should read this just to be able to understand the early signs and at the same time pray our children, together with ourselves, are spared this drop into hell.
