Edna Buchanan's latest mystery/thriller Shadows is a fast ride into the past as the Cold Case Squad works on solving the mystery of the murder of a former prominent citizen in Miami. Steamy Miami is made more sticky by the sleazy characters who contribute to the plot in unexpected ways. From the historical mansion where the murder took place to Southern Mississippi steeped in tradition and secrets, the Cold Case Squad has its abilities tested by villains determined to keep the past and its consequences out of their lives. Buchanan touches on the topics of Civil Rights as well as abortions and adoptions and gives a satisfactory conclusion
to a novel that is twisted and engrossing. This is one not to miss on the summer reading list, especially if you like romance, intrigue and bad guys being brought to justice.
