Sisters Riley and Alice have spent every summer at their parent's house on the beach in Long Island's Fire Island. Riley and Alice are almost complete opposites. Riley is more of a tomboy and works as a lifeguard. Alice is petite and beautiful.

The sisters are now in their twenties. Their mutual friend Paul, who they grew up with, is returning to the beach this year after not being there for a time. He is now trying to decide whether or not to sell his parent's beach house.

Alice always felt an attraction for Paul. Would she feel the same way when he returned this time? Did he forget her?

This summer turns out to be very different from the other ones in the past and it involves many things - among them - a serious illness and a secret.

What happens in the relationship of these three characters?

This book goes back and forth through time of the three characters in the book. Much of it deals with them when they were younger and growing up with Paul. The backdrop of the beach sets a perfect stage for this story and the reader will feel all the emotions that are taking place. It is really interesting to see the complex relationship between Riley and Alice and how Paul fits into it. This is an excellent story of family ties and would really make a great summer read. Ann Brashare's series, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, has been a huge success and The Last Summer (of You and Me) will be sure to delight more of her fans. Be sure to add this one to your reading list. I highly recommend it.
