BOOK REVIEW: ALL THE FLOWERS ARE DYING
Matt Scudder is life is pretty routine. He attends his AA meetings. Enjoys his life with Elaine and with his friends. Little does he know that his life is soon to be turned completely upside down.
Preston Applewhite is about to be executed for crimes he swears he did not commit. Louise, Matt's friend from AA, Louise, asks him to investigate her new boy friend to be sure that the things he is telling her about his life are true. Monica, Elaine's best friend is murdered. Matt begins to gather information about the murder and it is soon discovered that Elaine sold the murder weapon to the killer. This means that Elaine is the only person who has actually seen the killer and this puts her in danger. All of these incidents seem disconnected but soon the reader will find that there is indeed a connection.
Matt and his friend TJ try to piece all their bits of information together while doing their best to protect Elaine until the killer is caught.
The suspense builds, as it seems that the killer is going to be able to continue to keep his identity hidden. Will he take a chance on approaching Matt and Elaine or will he pack up and leave the city and come back to get his revenge at a later time?
The suspense continues to build as the random happenings begin to tie together. The killer is someone from Matt's past and does not hesitate to murder someone for a roof over his head for a night or just for fun. I hope that this man is just part of Block's imagination and that no one truly exists evil enough to commit the acts described in Block's book.
