Bellywasher is a bar that serves gourmet food. The bar advertises simple but it sounds gourmet to me.
Annie Capshaw works at Bellywasher along with her best friend Eve. Annie has a full time job but Bellywasher is a side-line and the owner, Jim, is her boyfriend.
When Bellywasher hosts a cooking class Annie is assigned to help. Annie is not a good cook and doesn’t profess to be but Jim has faith in her.
The class is a mixed group and it turns out Brad Peterson, a former boss of Eve’s is one of the students. Eve is involved in a group to pay back men like Brad who use their position to force their attention on employees and when those attentions are rebuffed Brad pays back by giving out bad references and keeping former employees from obtaining the jobs they are seeking. When Eve spots Brad she states she could kill him for all the class to see.
Then Brad does get killed and Eve is number one suspect. Annie and another one of the students who is big on protecting the environment begin an investigation that leads them into big time trouble.
A cute story and some recipes from the class are included in the back of the book.
