Felix Gomez was serving as a soldier in Iraqi. Then something terrible happened. He and his unit ended up killing innocent civilians. After the fighting had stopped, Gomez called for his team but found out he was alone and surrounded by the bodies of the civilians that had been killed.

Gomez limped to the closest dwelling he could find. He was full of guilt. He was not a hero but a murderer. In the next room was a man tending to a flame. He spoke in English. Gomez told the man that he would rather be dead. The man tried to ease his guilt by telling him that he was a soldier and his job was to kill. Gomez answered that it was not his job to kill innocent people. Gomez stated that he wanted to be held accountable and if someone must be punished then it should be him.

This is just what the man wanted to hear. The man stated he could make this situation pleasant but Gomez wanted to suffer. The man's lips touched his skin. Two sharp points punctured his flesh. The man stated that he is the damned son of Nadilla, the undead queen of the Tigiris and Euphrates. He stated that he now gave Gomez what he wanted - a punishment worse than death. Gomez was now a vampire.

Gomez is now back in the states and working as a private investigator. His college roommate, Gilbert Odin, works for the Environmental Restoration at the Department of Energy, and asks Gomez to investigate an outbreak of nymphomania among female guards at a plutonium processing plant.

Things don't turn out to be as simple as they first looked. Felix runs across professional vampire slayers who begin to center their attention on him. Then there is the problem with the Feds who want Felix to end his investigation.

Does Felix solve this case?

This is an excellent supernatural read. The author, Mario Acevedo, has created a unique novel interjected with a different type of humor. This is a fast paced novel and one that is an interesting read. The book is full of interesting characters and the vampires are "brought up to date". If you are looking for something that is really unique, this is the book for you. It is a fun read and one that is very entertaining.
