Bailey
Weggins, magazine writer, decided that after all the awful things
that happened to her one autumn, she was due for a little rest and
relaxation. Bailey admitted that probably much of this would
not have happened if she had a love life.
Bailey was invited
to spend a weekend in the fall, free of charge, at the Cedar Inn and
Spa in Warren, Massachusetts. A college friend of her mother's
named Danny owned the inn. Danny had asked Bailey many times
to visit the inn since it opened several years ago. Bailey
finally agreed to visit.
Bailey arrived late at the inn and
figured it was out of the question to get a treatment that
evening. However, she was informed that Danny had made
arrangements for her to be squeezed in for a message that
evening. After the message, Bailey returned to her room and
ordered something to eat. She ate and then thought she would
read for awhile. All of a sudden she realized she left her
watch in the message room. It was an old stainless steel Rolex
that belonged to her father. She started wearing it soon after
he died.
Bailey was in a panic to get someone to let
her into the message room to see if the watch was still there.
Finally, a woman named Natalie, phoned Bailey who stated that Piper,
the woman who gave Bailey the message, had gone to town. She
mentioned that another assistant manager, Anna might be able to
help. Bailey indicated that she could wait for Piper to
return.
Piper phoned Bailey upon her return.
Piper asked Bailey to meet her so she could show Piper exactly where
she left the watch. As they neared the spa, Piper noticed a
light was on. As they entered the hall, Piper was standing
there paralyzed in the doorway. Lying on the floor was a body
wrapped in silver paper.
Bailey knew she must now return to
her detective instincts and help solve this murder because it would
certainly not be good publicity for her friend's inn. In time,
another murder is committed at the inn. Bailey also finds
herself very interested in Jeffrey Beck, a detective working on the
case.
Who is the murderer? Will Bailey be the killer's
next target?
This is one of those books that reads very
smoothly. It is the kind of book you like to read when
relaxing on a rainy day. They just seem to go together.
Kate White has done a great follow up job after her bestselling book
"If Looks Could Kill". This is the second book of a new series
featuring Bailey Weggins. You will enjoy Kate White's writing
style. We look forward to more in this
series.
