Sally
Adler is a college professor and amateur sleuth. She always
had a "crush" on singer Stone Jackson. Much to her surprise,
Jackson stopped by one day and asked Sally for some help. How
could she refuse someone like Stone? His ex-wife, Nina Cruz,
was involved in a cause called the Wild West Foundation. Sally
knew it involved some kind of wildlife protection. Nina wanted
to have a benefit to raise money for the Foundation. Stone
would be the headliner and since Sally did a little performing with
her own band, Stone asked if they could open for him. Sally
didn't think this idea would go over very big with her band since
some of the guys were hunters.
Stone also had concerns
about Nina and some of the people she was helping in this
cause. Recently, he thought her behavior seemed a little
strange. This is where Stone needed Sally's help the
most.
Stone's fears were justified when Nina was found shot
to death not far from her home. The local Sheriff's Office
did not think any foul play was involved. They were inclined
to write it off as a hunting accident.
Was Nina murdered or
was it a hunting accident? Sally doesn't believe it was an
accident and decides to investigate to find out what really
happened. Things get really interesting when another person is
killed. This time, it is one of the members of Sally's
band. Now it is becoming obvious that someone doesn't want
Sally involved in this investigation.
Is Sally able to
find the truth about what really happened?
This is the
third book in Virginia Swift's mystery series. Sally Adler has
been described by USA Today as "Wyoming's version of TV's Jessica
Fletcher or Agatha Christie's Miss Marple." Mystery fans will
enjoy this book because it has all the necessary ingredients to make
it a great read - colorful characters, a plot with many twists, and
even some humor. This is the first time I have read a Sally
Adler mystery but it sure won't be my last. Let's hope
Virginia Swift continues to write more in this series. This
book is highly recommended.
