Jay
Walker is a fourth grade student. A friend of his, Benny,
stopped by his table in the cafetorium one day and asked for his
help. Benny's doll, Daisy Flyer, (or as Benny liked to call it
- his action figure) was kidnapped. Benny asked Jay for help
in finding Daisy. A ransom note was left behind demanding one
of Benny's trading cards for the return of the doll. If the
demands were ignored, the kidnapper would let everyone in the school
know that Benny played with dolls.
Jay sets out to solve this
case. He enlists the help of another classmate, Martha.
Jay's father is a policeman and he gives Jay some pointers on how to
help solve the case.
Does Jay solve the case? Is Daisy
Flyer returned safely?
Grant R. Phillips has written a very
clever novel for young adults. The characters are very
memorable. The book is humorous but also does a great job of
conveying some very serious messages to its readers. The
author does an excellent job of holding the reader's attention - you
just want to keep on reading. As I started reading this novel,
I felt like I was right there with a young Dick Tracey or Sgt.
Friday on Dragnet. It is obvious that Grant R. Phillips has
the talent and skills needed to write books for young adults.
The young readers will thoroughly enjoy this one! I enjoyed
reading this one too!
