BOOK REVIEW

        PITHED - KATHRYN LIVELY

Andy Farmer received a call from Chuck, one of his fellow teachers.  He stated, "I did it, Andy".  It was early in the morning and Andy was not yet awake.  He didn't know what to make of Chuck's call.  Chuck told Andy he was not coming to work and that Andy would know what happened as soon as he arrived at school.

When Andy arrived at the school, he noticed a police officer blocking the back entrance to the building.  The officer directed Andy to the front of the school.  He stated that no one was allowed in through back.  Andy questioned why but received no answer.  Then the terrible thought hit him - Chuck's haunting words came back to him - "You'll know soon enough when you get back to school".

Andy soon found out that Horace Shelton, the Principal, was slumped over his desk with a knife in his back.  His secretary, Corrine, found him.

As the investigation continued, Andy informed Detective Glass that he kept an inventory of all the equipment.  He stated there were twenty scalpels in the plastic bin on the top shelf.  Much to his dismay, the detective counted only nineteen.

What happened to the other scalpel?  Was Chuck involved in the murder or was it someone else?

Kathryn Lively has written a "can't put this book down" novel.  You want to keep reading to find out what happens next.  The book will keep you on edge and give you some surprises at the end.  She has created a great character in Andy Farmer.  He is someone we will look forward to in future books.  Throughout this novel, she shows us that she is a very talented writer and has a great future ahead.
