SHOOT THE MOON - BILLIE LETTS

The story takes place in Declare, Oklahoma in 1972.  Gaylene Harjo was brutally murdered and her baby, Nicky Jack disappeared.  The baby's pajama bottoms were found on the banks of Willow Creek and everyone believed Nicky Jack was dead.  A man was arrested for the murder of Gaylene but he died in jail.  Many believed he was not the real killer.

Thirty years later, Dr. Mark Albright, came to town.  He locates Teeve Harjo.  Mark told her  he just recently found out he was adopted and Gaylene Harjo was his mother.  He wanted to know how to locate her.  Teeve informed Mark that Gaylene was dead.  Mark was not aware that everyone believed he was dead.

Mark's sudden reappearance awakens many emotions and memories among the people in DeClare.  He soon finds out that what they remember is far more than he ever anticipated.

Some strange things begin to happen.  What will Mark find out about the past?

Billie Letts has written a mesmerizing novel.  It is suspenseful and she has a talent for making you feel you are right there in DeClare.  This is one that you will find hard to put down.  From page one, you just know there is an air of mystery but can't figure out what it is that makes you feel this way.  The author does an excellent job with the characters - she makes them very unforgettable.  Don't pass on this one!
