Benjamin Sparks, six, has disappeared. It's hard to
believe something like this could happen. After all, this was
an upscale neighborhood. Things like this just
don't happen here!
Christopher Boyd was a very
successful banker. When Benjamin disappeared, the person
suspected was Christopher's sister, Rachel. Why? Well,
Rachel was recently released from prison after serving thirty years
for murdering a young playmate.
It just so happened to
be Rachel's idea to be with the boy the day he disappeared.
Christopher had a housekeeper three days a week and a groundsman,
Harry Sparks, who was Benjamin's father. After Harry arrived,
Christopher got a call from the bank. Rachel indicated it was
her idea for Ben to stay with her because Chris and Harry had work
to do. Harry and Chris soon left.
Ben wanted a
treat. Rachel offered to take him to the ice cream
shop. The ice cream shop was about two miles from the country
club. After Ben and Rachel returned, she noticed Ben looked
tired. She suggested they take a nap. The next thing
that happened was Chris telling Rachel that Ben was
missing.
What happened to Benjamin? Is Rachel telling
the truth? What role is Chris playing in all of
this?
Dyslexic criminal defense lawyer Jackie Flowers takes
Rachel's case. She also brings Rachel into her home.
Rachel never gave an explanation for the crime she was in prison
for. Why doesn't she try to explain what
happened?
Stephanie Kane has written an excellent crime
novel. The story grabs your attention from the very
beginning. The author has a way of holding you captive until
you finish this book. You are in for a surprise ending -
something you won't expect. You will enjoy the main character,
Jackie Flowers. She is an inspiration and downright serious
about her work. Be sure to add this novel to your reading
list. It is one you will thoroughly enjoy.
