When Miranda met Brendan, she believed she found "Mr. Right".  He was quite handsome and a real charmer.  However, when she caught him reading her diary, she ended the relationship. 

Miranda received a call from her sister, Kerry.  She asked Miranda to meet her at a restaurant.  Miranda was surprised because Kerry never arranged anything like this before.  Kerry informed Miranda that she had some news.  "I've got a new boyfriend," stated Kerry.  Miranda was pleased to hear this news. Kerry indicated that he was one of Miranda's former boyfriends.  Miranda momentarily rehashed some of her old relationships never thinking of what was about to happen.  Kerry blurted out "It's Brendan".  Kerry told Miranda how Brendan told her of the pain it caused when he broke off the relationship!  A few minutes later Brendan arrived at the restaurant. 

Kerry and Brendan beg Miranda to let them live in her apartment until their new home is ready.  Miranda knew deep down inside she should not agree to this but she did. 

Now the problems really begin.  What will Brendan do now that he is living in the same house with Miranda?  Is he obsessed with Miranda or is she obsessed with him?  What is the secret in Brendan's past?

Nicci French has written a real psychological thriller.  This book is her best yet.  She has the knack of building suspense throughout the book - so much that you will want to read it in one day to find out what happens.   The author has created a story with a plot that is chilling.   Watch out for the surprise ending.  You will not be disappointed reading any novel by Nicci French and this truly is one you do not want to miss!
