BOOK REVIEW

SANITY AND GRACE - JUDY COLLINS

Singer Judy Collins wrote this book, which details the suicide of her only child.  She takes us through the events up to and following his death.  Judy also goes into detail about her own troubled childhood, her problems with addiction and depression.

Judy wrote this book from journal entries that she kept.   She found relief by reaching out to support groups because Judy felt she had to talk about her son and what happened.

This is an honest, candid book about being a survivor.  Judy wrote this book to help comfort others who have gone through similar tragedies.  Judy sums it up in the last chapter when she states, "The healing comes in waves, and some days are still dark and frightening.  But I know I am healing".  She states she knew a change was taking place because one night while she and her husband were having dinner with friends, she heard a laugh.  It took her a few minutes to realize it, but it was
her laughing.  This is an inspiring book!
