It's a
bad day for Sisco Fontaine. Jake Weisheit, the husband of a
woman Sisco was having an affair with, was lying on the floor with a
knife in his back. To make matters worse, Sisco had an
argument with Jake a few days earlier. He knew he would be the
prime suspect. There was only one thing he could do - call his
friend, Hitchcock Sewell, an undertaker. Hitch knew it was a
bad day when he answered the phone and heard Sisco telling him about
the victim.
Sisco thought he had a great
plan. Since Hitch was an undertaker, he could remove the
body. Polly Weisheit, the victim's wife, explained to
Hitch she did not call the police but called Sisco instead.
Hitch refused to remove the body because neither one of them called
the police first. Polly finally decided to call the
police.
Hitch received a visit from the police. It
seems someone spotted his hearse when he paid a visit to Sisco after
receiving his frantic call. Hitch explained to the police that
Sisco was reluctant to call the police due to the argument he had
with Jake.
Hitch had an elderly friend at the local nursing
home. Something strange was going on but he wasn't sure of
what was happening. Each time he visited his friend, Mrs.
McNamara, she looked a little worse and finally died.
Was Mrs. McNamara murdered? Are the two murders
connected? Hitch is not only an undertaker by profession but
he is also an amateur sleuth. He starts to investigate.
What does he find?
It is so wonderful to see another novel by
Tim Cockey in the Hitchcock Sewell series. The author always
provides suspense and great plots. Most of all, Hitch gives us
plenty of laughs along the way. Hitch just seems to have
a certain type of wit that makes this book really enjoyable.
We hope the wait for the next Hitchcock Sewell book won't be a long
one. Be sure to add this one to your reading list!
