This
book consists of several short stories that take place in
Brownsville, Texas a town close to the Mexican border. As the
book states, Brownsville is a town where men and women work hard to
create better lives for their families, where people sometimes bear
grudges against their neighbors, where love blossoms only to fade,
and where the one real certainty is that life holds
surprises.
One story is about a young boy who finds a way to
revenge an older man who is making fun of his father. Another
story is about a woman who talks her husband into buying adjoining
burial plots even though they are only in their thirties, and
another is about an unreturned borrowed hammer. These are
stories that will make you think once you have read them.
If you are looking for something different to read, you have
to buy this book. Each story has a colorful cast of characters
and teaches us a lesson about life. The book is an easy read,
which can be done in one day. We look forward to another book
of short stories by Oscar Casares.
